The Government House, which was built on the hill called the castle between 1904-1906, was used as the government house until 19 January 1976 and became unusable as a result of a fire that broke out on that date. The restoration works initiated by the Ministry of Culture in 2000 were started and completed in 2006, and opened as the City History Museum. The City History Museum provides all kinds of information, documents, goods, visual materials, It is a cultural unit established to contain audio and video recordings and to organize temporary and permanent exhibitions based on these data.
Museum; It consists of 3 (three) floors, the ground floor being the 1st floor and the 2nd floor. You can watch the stages of Safranbolu until today, see its life and culture and visit an old Safranbolu Bazaar. On the first floor; There are history, maps, cultural publications, satellite view, exhibition hall and conference hall of Safranbolu and the building. In the hall at the entrance of the second floor, clothes belonging to the Republic period are exhibited. It is quoted and also exhibited in coins and other materials belonging to the Roman and Byzantine periods, the Ottoman period and the Republican period. In the ethnography hall, items used in traditional Safranbolu life are exhibited. On the ground floor; There is photo information about commercial life and traditional handicrafts in Safranbolu. Same time; The working environments of important tradesmen in Safranbolu, such as Şifa Pharmacy, Turkish Delight, Yemenici, Shoemaker, Counter, Semerci, Saraç, Woodworking, Blacksmith, Coppersmith, Kalaycı and Esnaf's coffee shop, are presented to the visitors with the original animation technique.
